Fort Salonga: Midday Intermezzo

How I ended up at Intermezzo in Fort Salonga isn’t as important as what I ended up with: fab pizza, terrific pasta and an overall good time.
From the well-priced lunch menu (everything $8, $9 or $10), a pal and I shared a fine 10-inch Margherita pizzette ($8) fresh out of the wood-fired Sicilian brick oven. The cracker-crisp crust had a nice toasty flavor and was topped with a fragrant confluence of San Marzano tomatoes, basil, a little marinara, freshly made mozzarella and virgin olive oil.
Our waitress volunteered to split into two bowls a single order of capellini arugula — al dente angel hair tangled in a savory mélange of arugula, eggplant, tomatoes and garlic. So good, and, at $10, enough food to feed a family of four. Five, even.
Intermezzo is at 10-12 Fort Salonga Rd., Fort Salonga, 631-261-4840.
