Tucked inside a sprawling Glen Cove strip mall, Hazuki Japanese Fusion offers a mostly Japanese menu with a few Thai additions. As I found at dinner recently, service is warm and efficient. A gratis appetizer of fried white fish was piled high in a martini glass, drizzled with spicy mayonnaise and a sweet soy-based sauce. A nice way to welcome newcomers.
The highlight of the meal was scallop sashimi ($12), beautifully presented in a petal formation. A dragon roll, featuring eel with avocado and cucumber topped with roe, was ideal for those who don’t fancy raw fish. For those who do, there was an ample chirashi (sashimi over rice) platter, a very good value at $18. Salmon teriyaki featured fish that was cooked just a trifle too long ($17). Included in the price of entrees was miso soup and a salad.
Hazuki Japanese Fusion is at 207 Forest Ave., Glen Cove, 516-609-2828, hazukijapanesefusion.com.
