Huntington Station: Amicale in, Panama Hatties out

The sign is up and the menu is in place. Amicale is the new name of the restaurant at the former site of Panama Hatties.
Diners will barely recognize the old spot. The overhaul is complete, opening all those closed-in spaces, brightening them, and adding some good-looking catering rooms. More important, early on, the food is excellent.
Sampled recently: a first-class salad of octopus and crab meat and velvety filet mignon. And veterans of Soigne in Woodmere will recall the fine escargots in puff pastry. George Echeverria, who owned that recently closed restaurant, now owns Amicale.
