Claudio's opening restaurant at Atlantis resort in the Bahamas

If you’re heading to Atlantis in the Bahamas anytime soon, its newest restaurant may feel familiar: Claudio’s, the venerable Greenport dockside restaurant, is expanding to the Caribbean.

The project "has been in the works for two years of planning and plotting," according to managing partner Celeste Fierro, and is part of a larger effort to update Claudio's branding to appeal to a younger demographic. "We wanted to change it to make it a little more sophisticated."

Opening at the end of April, the Atlantis restaurant, like Claudio’s in Greenport, will offer waterfront dining and picturesque views with a casual and comfortable vibe and seafood-heavy menu. Docking slips will be available at the Atlantis’ marina for boats. The restaurant will stress using local products, as it does in Greenport with nearby Peconic oysters, Montauk tuna and fluke. In the Bahamas, emphasis will be on conch, seafood salads and local fish tacos in addition to Claudio's familiar roster of comfort food including lobster rolls, baked clams, chowders, lobster mac and cheese, flatbreads and sandwiches.

Its design palette relies on earth tones and dreamy blues, with nautical accents like boats suspended from the ceiling, and paddles mounted on the walls past the entrance. An outdoor patio will offer al fresco dining overlooking the area where Atlantis guests can swim with stingrays. The bar, the anchor in the center of the space, is flanked by two sunken dining rooms, and old photos of the Bahamian fishing community — just like those of Greenport’s own fishermen — will nod to the livelihood in both places.

"For the Atlantis, we’re in that middle price point. It’s either Shake Shack or Jose Andres. We are going to ride the middle," Fierro said. "You can come with your family, but mom and dad can also have nice drink, listen to live music, DJs, and bands. Right now, our goal is to be a little something to everyone."

Breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as some late night dining, will be available.
