Joe’s Crab Shack, a Houston-based seafood chain, is expected to get cracking in Oceanside on Monday, Jan. 30, at 11 a.m. Each of the first 100 patrons are to be awarded a free bucket of snow crab (worth $23.99) every month for a year.

Through the end of February, customers who donate to the No Kid Hungry charity will be rewarded with free food. Give $1 and get a coupon for a slice of free Key lime pie (worth $7.29); a $5 contribution entitles you to free crab nachos (worth $10.59), and $10 awards a free classic steampot with Dungeness crab, snow crab, boiled shrimp and smoked sausage (worth $23.99).

The local catch will be incorporated whenever possible. Arrangements have already been made for fresh lobster to be delivered daily from Jordan's Lobster Farm in Island Park. The restaurant is in the process of sourcing local clams for daily delivery, too.

A glance at the menu comes up with a crab dip appetizer ($8.99), a crabcake entree ($18.49) and fish and chips ($12.39).

The casual place has seating for 265, with patio tables available in warmer weather.

Joe’s Crab Shack is at 3555 Long Beach Rd., Oceanside, 516-255-3705.
