Less than six months after it opened in Lynbrook, The Lava Grill has closed. The restaurant took an innovative approach to Korean cuisine, adapting traditional Korean barbecue with a method that utilized superhot lava stones instead of open-flame grills. According to partner Amos Shin, the adaptation was made at the behest of the Nassau County fire marshal.
The menu also included Korean BBQ sliders, mussels with green-curry rice, spicy fried chicken and mandoo dumplings.
The Lava Grill occupied one of the storefronts on that block of Atlantic Avenue that runs under the LIRR tracks in Lynbrook. With the exception of an art studio, a gym and a cigar bar, they are all vacant.
