Montauk BBQ: When Pigs Fly

While tooling about Montauk, I came upon a little hole-in-the-wall barbecue spot called When Pigs Fly. As I later found out, it was just opened by Michael Antolini (formerly of Adam’s Rib in West Babylon) and his wife Lisa.
What they're serving isn’t slow-smoked barbecue but, rather, slow-baked and spice-rubbed. The menu also offers fried chicken, ribs and sandwiches. A lobster roll, too.
I ordered a pulled pork sandwich, big shards of tender meat in a vinegar-based barbecue sauce. Not bad. Can’t say I was impressed with the accompanying fries, little more than just a vehicle for ketchup and salt.
This is a grab and go kind of place; no tables, just a bench. If you’re beach-bound, though, it may be just what you need.
When Pigs Fly is at 10 S. Etna Ave., Montauk, 668-8070
