Alaine’s is a sleek, chic new dining spot, open since December in the totally transformed Massapequa space where Thai Green Leaf used to be. You will find it directly across from Sunrise Mall.
Executive chef-owner Alaine Giuliani designed the interior herself, using lots of cool gray. Giuliani, who attended Le Cordon Bleu in London and got a bachelor of arts degree in hospitality from New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury, defined her menu as “American Continental.”
“We get fresh fish in every day,” Giuliani said.
The “fish of the day” salad ($15), which I ordered for lunch recently, featured a lovely slab of tuna, grilled rare. But, ouch, it was served in a taco shell over a mundane mesclun mix along with canned mandarin oranges, feta cheese and walnuts. Nice orange-basil vinaigrette, though. And pretty good rosemary-thyme bread, too.
Also on the menu: Crabcakes over a cilantro kidney bean and corn salsa ($12), steak sandwich ($12), a classic burger ($9), chicken marsala ($14) and baby back ribs ($20).
Alaine’s is at 27 Carmans Rd., Massapequa, 516-809-7979
