The January thaw is giving way to the return of chilly nights. Here are three restaurants where you’re sure to warm up, courtesy of the food and the mood.
Oak Chalet in Bellmore specializes in German and continental cuisines, all served in a homey setting. Recommended: the schlacht platter of bratwurst, knockwurst, smoked pork chop and potato pancakes; sauerbraten with red cabbage and potato dumpling; Wiener schnitzel a la Holstein; frikadelle, a meat loaf with mushroom gravy. The 1770 House in East Hampton dates to its namesake year and then some. And it is has been dependably excellent, especially now. Recommended: spicy Montauk fluke tartare; cauliflower soup; loin of lamb with olives and saffron risotto; pork tenderloin with sage-walnut pesto; sticky date cake; tangerine creme brulee; ricotta cheesecake.
