Post Office Cafe in Babylon celebrates 40th anniversary with deals, live music

Post Office Cafe, which was a post office building from the 1930s to 1970s, celebrates its 40th year as a restaurant in Babylon on Friday, Oct. 5.

Live music and $4 beers will be among the attractions at the Main Street landmark. The festivities are slated to start at 4 p.m.

The anniversary party will feature music from Bobby Digital from 4 to 8 p.m. and from JHaus Band starting at 9 p.m. Blue Point Brewing Co.'s boat-style truck will be moored at the cafe, pouring $4 draft beers.

Post Office Cafe's full menu will be served. "Shares" include mini-Reuben sliders, Bavarian pretzel with smoked Gouda-and-onion fondue, and seven varieties of chicken wings. They're $10-$15. "Food truck" fish, chicken, and steak tacos, are $12-$14.; sandwiches and burgers, $12-$15. And main dishes, which range from fish and chips and macaroni and cheese to marinated Gorgonzola-crusted flat iron steak and honey-bourbon glazed salmon go from $16 to $24.

The vintage building underwent a major renovation last year. Lessing's, the family-owned food-service company that owns Post Office Cafe, also owns the Three Village Inn in Stony Brook, with Mirabelle and Mirabelle Tavern; other restaurants including Sandbar in Cold Spring Harbor, View in Oakdale, and Library Cafe in Farmingdale, as well as 17 catering facilities.
