Wainscott: Mega-lunch @ Breadzilla

Breadzilla, that monstrously good Hamptonian bakery, stands out with cakes and crullers, muffins and tarts. And, of course, bread. But it's also one of the best places to get a sandwich.
For the stuck-in-traffic visitor who has survived the bottlenecks of Water Mill and Bridgehampton, Breadzilla provides a quick break from the driving lunacy. The bakery has a small garden area in the front with seating and a very satisfying menu of soups, sandwiches, quesadillas and tacos that changes daily.
So: lobster roll alert. Served on a fresh, soft roll called a "squishy," Breadzilla prepares an excellent version of the trademark treat. The chunky lobster salad is loosely bound, mostly sweet meat. The roll, naturally, is first-rate -- enough to make you forget all those toasted hot-dog buns.
You'll also enjoy a spicy, slow-roasted pulled pork po'boy on a soft roll; a taco with blackened fluke; quesadilla with roast beef; a fine vegetarian choice with with goat cheese, avocado, shredded carrots and spinach on toasted sunflower bread; and very appealing grilled cheese and pan-seared roast duck, too.
Lunch is offered from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Breadzilla is just north of Montauk Highway (Route 27), at 84 Wainscott NW Rd., Wainscott; 631-537-0955.
