Wanted: More in Manhasset

What’s the opposite of a hotbed? Whatever it is, that’s what Manhasset is of dining options. Is there a town on Long Island with fewer interesting places to eat? I’m not talking about the little strip along Northern Boulevard that boasts Pearl East, Stresa, Nick & Pedro’s and Café Continental. I’m talking about Plandome Road in downtown Manhasset. There was a Peruvian place, Las Vinas, open for about 10 minutes in what used to be the Polo Lounge. According to a sign in the window, construction there is ongoing, though I’ve not seen anyone working.
And what else? There’s Mykonos and Misaki and Villa Milano and Louie’s and a bunch of bars that serve food. There’s Orlando’s Deli, which has a couple of seats. A La Bottega is opening soon.
Today I stopped at Gino’s and enjoyed this Margherita slice. The crust had an excellent texture but was a little bland. Still, the tomatoes were sweet, the cheese milky and tender. Is this the best meal in Manhasset?
Gino’s is at 480 Plandome Rd., Manhasset, 516-627-5280.
