Weekend picks: Near the RXR Christmas tree

The RXR Plaza Christmas tree in Uniondale is aglow and the rink is ready for ice skaters. Enjoy the Norwegian spruce, the lights, a spin, and maybe something to eat en route to or from. Here are three spots for a bite not far from the show.
Vero Italiano is a destination for Italian-American favorites. Appetizers include eggplant rollatine and stuffed mushrooms; soups, minestrone, lentil, pasta e fagioli; pastas, rigatoni Bolognese, and a "timballo" of macaroni, chopped meat, eggplant and other vegetables under a mantle of mozzarella. The main dishes have all the Parmigianas and Sorrentinos.

Pastrami Plus is the local oasis for major deli dining. Fill up on the husky sandwiches, which include corned beef and, of course, pastrami. The "Brooklyn Dodger" combines pastrami, chopped chicken liver, coleslaw and Russian dressing. Also, brace yourself with the assorted knishes, pierogies, stuffed cabbage, chicken in the pot, and fried chicken.

Trodos is a Mediterranean-style restaurant emphasis on Greece and Turkey. Sample feta-and-haloumi cheese rolls, fried calamari and grilled octopus, avgolemono and Turkish red lentil soups, Greek salad and mesclun-Gorgonzola salad, pita sandwiches, plenty of kebabs, moussaka, and grilled whole fish.
