Wings ‘n Things has opened a second location in Elmont, where, in addition to wings, you’ll find ribs, fried chicken, biscuits and a 99-cent menu.
Though there are plenty of wing-centric chains and mom and pops, Wings ‘n Things just might be on its way to becoming a Long Island mainstay. (It set up 20 years ago in its original location on Fulton Street in Hempstead.)
Since the Anchor Bar in Buffalo introduced its version of wings sometime between the mid-1960s and 1970, the appeal has only heightened. By 1980, food writer Calvin Trillin had written about the place for The New Yorker Magazine, while Craig Claiborne penned a recipe for The New York Times in 1981. By 1982, the chain Buffalo Wild Wings opened and since then, about 20 chains nationally specialize in wings. (Americans eat about 27 billion wings a year, according to the National Chicken Council.)
Wings ‘n Things Elmont is located at 1717 Dutch Broadway, 516-341-7075; and at 519 Fulton Ave., in Hempstead, 516-483-0936.
