FROM FOOD WRITER ERICA MARCUS

The weekend is looking fine and unseasonably warm; this may be your last chance for a picnic. Throw a couple of blankets in the car (or, better yet, some folding chairs) and head to the park, the woods, the beach.

And pick up some fried chicken first. Zorn’s is Nassau County’s poultry specialist, founded in Bethpage as a farm in 1940 and now operating takeout operations in Bethpage and Bellmore (which also has seating).

The Southern-fried chicken is equally good hot or cold. Buckets range from $24.69 (8 pieces of chicken with two sides) to $70.75 (25 pieces with six sides).

Zorn’s is at 4321 Hempstead Tpke., Bethpage, 516-731-5500 and 2495 Merrick Rd., Bellmore, 516-826-8000, http://zornsonline.com/

FROM RESTAURANT CRITIC MELISSA MCCART

Eat your vegetables at Slurp Ramen in Port Jefferson, with a “slurp fresh” order that starts with miso and a tangle of noodles. Add to it tofu, corn, cabbage, scallions and red ginger for $11.95 for a surprisingly robust soup. If that doesn’t fill you up, order a second round of noodles to add to the broth, or small plates like the veggie bun ($3.50 each) or sweet garlic tofu ($3.50). 109 W. Broadway, Port Jefferson, 631-509-1166, http://slurpusa.com/
