One person was killed Sunday when two boats crashed in a channel in the Great South Bay, south of Babylon, Suffolk police said.
First Squad detectives are investigating the crash, which occurred at 2:40 p.m. in the West Fox Creek S. Channel.

According to a Suffolk County Police news release, David Nostrand was operating a 17-foot 1981 Boston Whaler heading south in West Fox Creek Channel when his vessel struck a northbound 22-foot 1987 Activator motor boat, operated by Ian Morgan, at about 2:40 p.m. Zachary McCarthy, 25, of Lindenhurst, who was a passenger on the Activator, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, the release said.
Nostrand, 58, of Farmingdale, and Morgan, 19, of Lindenhurst, were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for treatment of minor injuries.
Both boats were impounded for safety checks, the release said.
