Bay Houses of Long Island

Jul29

Documentary filmmaker Greg Blank discusses the unique history and culture of bay houses through a screening & discussion of his documentary film “A World Within A World: The Bay Houses Of Long Island.” Long Island’s bay houses, of which only 42 remain, were originally built in the 19th century. They stand on the fragile marshlands in the Town of Islip and the Town of Hempstead. Built and maintained by fishermen and baymen, duck hunters and recreational boaters, most of the houses that stand today range in age from 30 to 100 years old.
