He tried to buy a lottery ticket using a fake $50 bill, Suffolk County police said. But it wasn’t exactly the suspect’s lucky day — the clerk noticing the bill was a fake, they said.
Police have released surveillance photos from the incident at 3:50 a.m. Jan. 22 at a Shell gas station on Medford Avenue in Patchogue. The footage shows the man entering the service station store and standing at the counter.
The suspect left the counterfeit bill behind as he fled the scene.
Police asked anyone with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-8477. All calls will remain confidential and callers are eligible for a cash reward of up to $5,000 for any information leading to an arrest.
