Homeless man fatally shot in Central Islip, Suffolk police say

Suffolk homicide detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of a homeless man in Central Islip early Monday, police said.
The victim, Michael Evans, 54, who also used the first name Malik, was found by Third Precinct officers on East Suffolk Avenue, near the intersection of Church Street, about 12:55 a.m. Monday, according to Suffolk police.
A physician assistant from the Suffolk medical examiner's office pronounced Evans dead at the scene, police said.
