A Patchogue man was convicted on Friday for shooting into the home of an elderly couple in Mastic Beach last year, according to a news release from the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.

Jerry McKoy shot at the home on April 11, 2024, after arguing over money with a woman in his car on Hickory Road, the release said.

McKoy mistakenly believed the woman had entered a nearby home that was occupied by a 78-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman who did not answer the door when McKoy knocked, so he fired two shots at the home, the Suffolk district attorney said. The couple was not injured.

"This defendant, a previously convicted violent felon, pulled out an illegal loaded firearm and fired it into the home of an innocent elderly couple following an argument over money," Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said in the news release.

McKoy's attorney, Chase Brown, of Central Islip, was not immediately available to comment.

The Suffolk County Police Department arrested McKoy in July. On Friday, a Supreme Court jury convicted him of two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and first-degree reckless endangerment, all felonies. He faces 25 years to life in prison.

"Today’s verdict is another step forward in holding perpetrators accountable for this type of senseless violence," Tierney wrote in the release.

According to the Suffolk district attorney's office, McKoy was convicted of first-degree burglary in 2000 and second-degree assault in 2021.

He is scheduled to be sentenced for the Mastic Beach shooting on June 24.
