Man tried to break into Garden City houses, police say
A man has been charged with attempting to burglarize two Garden City homes and breaking into three vehicles, police said.
Thomas Hoey III was arrested Tuesday by Garden City police, according to a news release from Nassau County police.
It appeared Hoey, 26, had no fixed address, a county police spokesman said.
He was charged with attempting to burglarize a home on St. Paul Place and another home on Rockaway Avenue, both on Aug. 11, police said.
Police said officers responded to 911 calls about the attempted break-ins, but the man fled on foot.
Hoey was also charged with stealing or attempting to steal property from three vehicles on the streets of Garden City, police said.
Police did not say what led them to Hoey.
He was awaiting arraignment in First District Court in Hempstead, police said.
