A Centereach woman faces multiple charges after police said she tripped an officer while resisting arrest at a government building Monday.

According to Nassau police, Maria Campanelli, 26, was causing a disturbance around 6:30 p.m. at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building in Mineola and was asked to leave the facility.

As officers escorted Campanelli off the premises, police said she became noncompliant and, after she was issued multiple warnings, officers attempted to place Campanelli into custody.

She then acted unruly and deliberately caused an officer to trip and fall, injuring his knees and waist, police said. The officer was taken to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.

Campanelli was charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration, police said. She will be arraigned on Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
