Suffolk County police are investigating the stabbing of a teenage boy in Brentwood on Friday evening that sent the victim to the hospital with serious injuries, the agency said Saturday.

The 16-year-old was stabbed in Roberto Clemente Park around 8 p.m., officials said. He and two other boys were sitting in a "wooded area" of the park when four other males arrived and "punched and hit the victim," police wrote in a news release.

The victim's friends ran to get help when two of the attackers pulled out knives. Police later found the 16-year-old with multiple stab wounds on his back.

The teenager was taken to a hospital via police helicopter and is receiving treatment for "serious but non-life-threatening injuries," the department wrote.

Suffolk police did not provide Newsday with further details abut the stabbing or the status of the victim.

Suffolk police ask tipsters to call the Suffolk Police Department's Third Squad at 631-854-8352 or the tip line at 800-220-TIPS.
