A Lindenhurst woman has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run crash in Bellmore on Tuesday night that left a pedestrian with severe head trauma, Nassau police said.

Police said the pedestrian, a 20-year-old woman, was crossing Sunrise Highway at Bedford Avenue around 9:50 p.m. when she was struck by a vehicle, which then drove off, police said.

The woman was taken to a hospital, where she was listed in critical condition, police said.

About 40 minutes after the crash, police said Ashley Martin, 26, turned herself in to police. She has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious physical injury.

Martin will be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Wednesday, police said. It was not immediately clear if she was represented by an attorney.
