Girl, 15, at Walt Whitman High School accused of making threat on Snapchat
Suffolk County police arrested a 15-year-old Walt Whitman High School student Thursday afternoon in Huntington Station accused of making a threat on Snapchat, police and school officials said.
Police responded to the high school Thursday after discovering “a threat of mass harm” posted online. Police said they interviewed a 15-year-old girl, searched her locker, backpack and home and determined the threat was not credible.
The girl was charged with misdemeanor threat of mass harm and will be arraigned in Suffolk County Family Court at a later date.
South Huntington Superintendent Vito D’Elia said the school district was able to verify the threat was not credible and determined there was “no threat to any of our students or staff here at the high school.”
In a message to parents sent via texts and the district's notification app, he urged parents, “Please use this opportunity to once again, reiterate to your children the serious nature and consequences attached to any social media posts.”
