Fire damages 2 homes in N. Babylon; 4 residents, one firefighter injured

Eight people, including one firefighter, were treated at a hospital after fire heavily damaged two homes in North Babylon on Saturday night, according to a post on the North Babylon Fire Company's Facebook page.
The North Babylon Volunteer Fire Company and eight other mutual aid companies responded to the house fire on Embargo Place in North Babylon at 7:15 p.m.
The fire started in one house but jumped to another, and both structures were badly damaged, according to a statement issued by the North Babylon Fire Company.
"Crews were met with a heavy fire load," according to the Facebook post. "Multiple hose lines were stretched and an aggressive attack was made. The fire was brought under control in approximately 90 minutes."
Four residents and one firefighter were transferred to a hospital for evaluation, the fire company said. The Red Cross responded to help the residents displaced by the fire.
Suffolk County arson detectives and the Town of Babylon fire marshals were investigating the cause, authorities said.
