Fate may have brought them together, but Danielle Sinacori and Pete Lazic like to joke that it was New York’s superior pizza that sealed the deal.

The couple said they happened to sit next to each other in a 500-person lecture hall when they were sophomores at Arizona State University in Tempe in 2015. They struck up a conversation and a few weeks later went on their first date.

Lazic, a real estate agent from Chicago, and Sinacori, a photographer who grew up in Wantagh, have a passion for pizza and said they would often debate the “cheese-to-sauce ratios” and “crust thickness” of New York-style pizza versus deep-dish Chicago pizza.

“Pete actually had a slice from Umberto’s pizzeria in Wantagh before even meeting my parents,” said Sinacori, 28. “It was love at first bite.”

Sinacori was equally smitten — with Lazic, that is. When she came home from college after meeting him, her family said the only thing she would talk about was Lazic. Sinacori said her twin sister, Nicole, alluded to this in her maid-of-honor speech at their wedding, teasing that she would find a way to weave him into any conversation: “If someone said they wanted water, Danielle would say, ‘Pete loves water!’ ”

Lazic, 28, proposed to Sinacori at her childhood home on Sept. 22, 2023.

They wed on Sept. 6 at The Mansion at Oyster Bay in Woodbury before 123 guests.

Sinacori said her aunt, Bonnie Newman, hand-painted the table cards, while her grandmother, Ginny Michalek, put together the welcome bags for their hotel guests.

To honor Lazic’s Serbian heritage, they celebrated with Serbian dancing and rakija, a fruit brandy that is a key part of Serbian culture.

“We are forever grateful to each of our parents for making our wedding day everything we could have ever dreamed of,” said Sinacori.
