Corin Greene has talent -- and now it's official.

Greene, a senior at Ward Melville High School in East Setauket, sang her way to first place last month at the first "Long Island's Got Talent" competition coordinated by the Ward Melville Heritage Organization in Stony Brook.

"My whole family started screaming," said Greene, 17, who is a soprano. "I'd love to be a singer professionally. It's my passion and what I've wanted to do for a long time."

For winning, she received a $6,000 college scholarship from Five Towns College in Dix Hills and a $1,000 cash prize from Competition Auto Group in Smithtown.

Greene said she vied against 26 other students in the spring before advancing to the competition's final round, held last month. There she sang two original songs, "Forgive Me" and "My Missing Puzzle Piece," to her own piano accompaniment.

At Ward Melville, Greene is a member of the Drama Club and Select Choir. She also was named to the All-State Women's Chorus for the New York State School Music Association's All-State Winter Conference Concert series, being held this week in Rochester.

Greene has been playing piano for more than a decade. She also plays guitar and takes dance lessons.
