2 Jericho schools remain on lockdown Tuesday

Two Jericho schools will be on lockdown Tuesday for the second day in a row due to bomb threats, the district superintendent told parents in an email Monday evening.

It was a change in plans that came after two more bomb threats were received for Jericho High School and Jericho Middle School, said Henry L. Grishman, head of the Jericho school district.

"I can't begin to express our frustration with this ongoing saga," he wrote. "But we will continue to work closely with the Nassau County Police to resolve this matter as quickly as possible.

"The safety of our children is our first priority and we will continue to plan to ensure a safe environment tomorrow," he said.

A bomb threat sent to students over the weekend via emails and text messages led to a lockdown Monday and a police investigation.

Students, faculty and others entering the two schools Monday morning were searched, a school district spokesman said, but nothing was uncovered.

"I also had additional staff members walk the halls of our middle school/high school complex today," said Grishman in Monday's email to parents. "I am confident that the middle school/high school complex is safe and will remain safe."

The email said added security "will remain as long as necessary."

No arrests have been made, and police continue to investigate, Grishman said in a phone interview Monday. "We spent a great deal of time with police over the last 24 hours and look forward to working closely with them over the next few days," he said.

Second Precinct police were at the scene Monday to provide support, including traffic control, said the district spokesman and a police spokeswoman.
