Cops: 4 at Hicksville motel arrested in bogus kidnap scheme

Nassau County police arrested two men and two women just after midnight Saturday in a Hicksville motel after a police investigation found they had allegedly tried to get $2,000 from an unknown family in a bogus kidnapping scheme.

Detectives said the defendants called the family in New Cassel on April 3 about 10 p.m. stating there was a kidnapping and demanding the money.

The investigation led police to the EconoLodge at 429 Duffy Ave. in Hicksville where they took into custody the following suspects: Wendy Suprien, 20, of 173 Elizabeth St., New Cassel; Scharday Hilton, 28, of 15 6th Ave., Huntington Station; Wisard Dextra, 20, of 941 Broadway, Westbury; and Sheyla Diaz, 19, of 245 E. 178th St., Apt. 1B, Bronx.

All were in apparent good health and in no duress, officers noted. Police found a clear, plastic bag believed to have contained the drug commonly known as ecstasy. There was no victim of a kidnapping, police said.

Police declined to identify the family or the relationship to the defendants, citing policy on releasing victim information.

All four defendants face charges of grand larceny, possession of a controlled substance, conspiracy and falsely reporting an incident. They are due to appear Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead.

Dextra is additionally charged with criminal possession of stolen property and Diaz is charged with prostitution. Police also arrested Christopher Dodge, 53, of 25 Winding Lane in Levittown. Dodge was in the same room at the time of the other arrests and is charged with patronizing a prostitute. He was issued an appearance ticket for April 22.
