Cops: Jewelry thief nabbed after owner recognizes her
A Williston Park woman faces a grand larceny charge after a jewelry store owner recognized her on surveillance video as she took $250,000 worth of engagement rings, Nassau County police said.
Third Squad detectives arrested Lisa Lord, 44, of 480 Pennsylvania Ave., at about 4:25 p.m. Tuesday at her home, police said.
Earlier in the day, Lord had gone to Gold Heart Fine Jewelry at 56 Hillside Ave., in Williston Park, police said. While the salesperson went to the back of the store, Lord reached behind the counter, taking two display trays of gold engagement rings, police said.
After realizing the rings -- valued at about $250,000 -- were missing, the store's owner reviewed surveillance video and recognized Lord from previous purchases, police said.
The owner then notified police.
Police said "a portion of the proceeds" were recovered.
Lord is charged with second-degree grand larceny and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
