Cops: Teen charged in string of Valley Stream break-ins
Two teenagers from New York City were arrested Monday in Rosedale, Queens, and charged with a burglary that occurred a short time earlier in Valley Stream, police said.
One of the men, Onyx Arroyo, 18, was linked to six other Valley Stream break-ins committed since May 31, Nassau County police said Tuesday. The other man, Omar Allen, 17, was linked to one other burglary in Valley Stream, police said.
Arroyo, of 149-45 258th St., Rosedale, was charged with six counts of second-degree burglary and one count of second-degree attempted burglary. Allen, of 680 Tinton Ave., the Bronx, was charged with two counts of second-degree burglary, police said.
Police said the case Monday began when the two teens rang the front doorbell of a home on Roeckel Avenue at about 1:15 p.m. The female homeowner, 46, looked through a window, police said, and saw the teens on the front porch -- but police said the pair then went to a side door and rang the bell there.
When the woman went to that door, police said the teens were gone; moments later, the homeowner heard "a loud noise" at the rear of the house. Realizing the teens had broken in, police said, the woman called 911.
A description of the teens was broadcast -- and police said the two were arrested "a short time later" in Rosedale.
In a Tuesday news release, police did not say how investigators linked Arroyo to the other six break-ins and Allen to one other burglary.
At arraignment Tuesday, bail was set at $140,000 bond or $70,000 cash for Arroyo. Allen was held without bail. Both are due back in court Thursday.
