The Hempstead Town Board voted yesterday to demolish a home in East Meadow over the resident’s objections where authorities seized 45 dogs in July.
The resident’s lawyer said she had hoped to clean up the property after the town shut off its utilities. The woman has been battling health issues, the lawyer said.
Building Commissioner John Rottkamp said the town has been dealing with the property, located on Powers Avenue, since 2014.
Rescuers from the Nassau SPCA had to wear hazmat suits when they entered the house in July and found the dogs covered in feces and an overpowering smell of ammonia from urine.
Neighbors said they’d called town and county officials for years to complain about the woman, a breeder.
