Electrician accused of stealing $35G in copper wire, fuses

A 27-year-old Franklin Square man was arrested Monday and charged with stealing $35,000 worth of copper wire and fuses from the Massapequa electrical company where he worked, police said.

Nassau County police said the thefts took place between July 19 and Aug. 14.

During that time, police said, Andrew Walsh, of 300 Dogwood Ave., an electrician at the company, stole copper wire and fuses. It was not immediately clear if the items were sold for scrap. Police did not name the company.

It also was not immediately clear if any of the stolen items were recovered -- or what evidence led investigators to arrest Walsh.

Police said Seventh Squad detectives arrested Walsh on Monday in East Rockaway, charging him with two counts of third-degree burglary, as well as with third-degree grand larceny.

Walsh was arraigned Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead and held pending $5,000 bail.
