Hempstead Turnpike reopens after accident

The westbound lanes of Hempstead Turnpike at Westminster Road in West Hempstead have reopened late Sunday morning after a vehicle accident that brought down a utility pole, closing the road, Nassau County police said.
The Long Island Power Authority had worked to repair the pole since the crash, which occurred at about 3:20 a.m. Sunday morning.
The westbound roadway reopened to traffic at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
Police released no other details on the incident.
