An East Rockaway firefighter injured an ankle and 50-year-old man suffered smoke inhalation at a house fire Thursday night in the village, according to Nassau County police.

Both the man who was at the house and the firefighter were taken to a hospital.

Nassau police responded to the fire that was reported at 11:18 p.m. in the house on Adams Street. The fire was extinguished by the East Rockaway Fire Department, though there was significant damage to the home, according to a police news release.

The Nassau County Fire Marshall also responded. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
