A 23-year-old musician from Rockville Centre who wanted to assist New York City’s homeless by setting their stories to music was killed in a Connecticut car crash Tuesday.

Reed Turcic Latrowski was a gifted actor and musician, who played both the guitar and the piano, his family said.

He “had hoped to record an album of original songs based on the stories of those he had met and use any proceeds to help the homeless community in New York City,” his family said in a statement.

“He was always sensitive to the homeless since a very young age,” his mother, Christina Latrowski, said.

He had attended the Professional Performing Arts High School in Manhattan “because of his passion for acting, which began when he was 11 and was on the national tour of ‘Oliver,’” his mother said.

“My soul has been ripped out,” she added.

Latrowski graduated last year from Dartmouth College with a bachelor of arts degree in history and a theater minor.

“He was a history buff,” his mother said. “He knew some of the most arcane information and always did great when watching ‘Jeopardy!’”

Latrowski was trying to get home so that he could vote early in the morning Tuesday when he lost control of an SUV shortly before 4 a.m. in Brookfield, Connecticut, state police said.

He had been tutoring a family friend in Connecticut, his uncle John Suydam, of Rockville Centre, said.

Latrowski was traveling south on Route 7 in a 2015 BMW X5 when it left the road and hit a tree, a statement from Connecticut state police said.

“The vehicle sustained damage consistent with a rollover,” police added.

Latrowski’s survivors include his father, Mark, a twin brother, Taylor, of Rockville Centre, and his grandmother, Kazia, of Manhattan.

The family will hold visiting hours from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Macken Mortuary in Rockville Centre.

A funeral will be at St. Agnes Cathedral in Rockville Centre on Friday at 10 a.m. A cremation is planned.
