A 39-year-old male driver was killed and a second driver was injured in an early morning crash in North Hills that closed the westbound Long Island Expressway for about seven hours Friday, police said.

Nassau County police have not released the identity of the victim.

The crash occurred at 1:55 a.m. near Exit 34, police said.

The road was closed at Exit 36, resulting in a morning rush-hour traffic jam that stretched more than a mile east, as seen on the state Department of Transportation 511 NY traffic cameras. Police said all lanes were reopened about 9 a.m.

Police said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second driver, who sustained minor injuries, was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The investigation was continuing.
