Ice and snow apparently led to the collapse of a Greenvale clothing store's loading dock roof Thursday morning, a Town of North Hempstead spokesman said.

No one was injured in the collapse at the T.J. Maxx store at 90 Northern Blvd., which fell shortly after 6 a.m., said spokesman Collin Nash.

"It appears to be because of the snow and ice," he said.

Nash said a town building inspector has requested the T.J. Maxx store get a safety report from an engineer "to make sure it is structurally sound." That store remains closed pending the report, he said.

Several other stores in the mall have been told to furnish reports on structural damage, although the building department did not close those stores, Nash said.

However, some of the businesses, including a Moe's restaurant, an Equinox gym and a Lester's clothing store, were closed Thursday morning.

Crews were gathered near the loading dock on the side of the building, and yellow tape roped off stores from customers.

Remi Kent of Greenvale was turned away from the Equinox gym, where she was hoping to attend a spin class.

"I finally got motivated to go to the class and the gym is closed," she said.
