A Roosevelt man was arrested Thursday on second-degree murder charges in connection with the June killing of a Uniondale man near a church where a service was taking place, police said.
Nassau County police had asked the public's help in tracking down Jonathan D. Mack, whom police identified as the shooter. On Thursday, police arrested Mack, 19, of 983 Uniondale Avenue.
Police said the investigation, which included information obtained through tips from Nassau County Crime Stoppers, led detectives to Bradenton, Fla., where Mack was found and arrested. He will be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
Isaac Andrews, 34, was fatally shot in Uniondale on June 30 around 10:40 a.m., after arguing over money with Mack, police had said.
The two were unemployed and knew each other from the neighborhood, homicide Det. Sgt. Stephen Fitzpatrick said in July. Mack "claimed he took money from him," Fitzpatrick said.
Mack fled and Andrews was brought to Nassau County Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 12:25 p.m., police said.
The slaying took place steps from the Tabernacle of Joy Church as about 70 people worshipped inside.
