Officials: Old Westbury mansion fire briefly shuts LIE service road
The fire that roared through an Old Westbury mansion late Thursday, closing the Long Island Expressway north service road for several hours, appears to be accidental, officials said.
The Nassau County Police Department said officers closed the nearby north service road about 11:20 p.m. and reopened it about 3:15 a.m.
Fire officials said 13 fire departments responded to the fire in the “large mansion” on Tatem Way.
The fire was possibly due to electrical failure, the Nassau County fire marshal’s office said Friday.
Fire officials said two firefighters were injured but refused medical aid, and one firefighter was injured and taken to a hospital for evaluation.
There were no other injuries reported, and it was not known whether anyone was in the house at the time.
Online real estate records show the mansion has seven or eight bedrooms and seven bathrooms, and has a current sales value of $4.4 million.
