Long Island Rail Road train service on the West Hempstead Branch has been restored after a section was suspended all day due to a fire that broke out on a work train behind a home in Malverne, according to the MTA.
The first train to depart: one out of Atlantic Terminal at 6:11 p.m.
MTA spokeswoman Laura Cala-Rauch said that full service would also resume from other terminals and stations as well.
She said cross-honoring tickets has also ended.
The fire, which has since been extinguished, was reported at about 3:45 a.m. on a non-passenger LIRR work train east of Westwood, according to Renee Price, spokeswoman for the MTA, which runs the region's transit system.
Service was suspended between Valley Stream and West Hempstead.
About 50 firefighters from the Malverne and Lynbrook fire departments responded to the train fire, which happened behind a home on Ackley Avenue in Malverne, Nassau County Fire Marshal Michael Uttaro said in a news release. The Nassau fire marshal's hazmat team and drone unit also attended the scene.

There were no injuries, according to the release, and the LIRR fire marshal was investigating.
The fire damaged vinyl fencing along the LIRR right of way, which the LIRR was assessing.
