A 17-year-old driver was killed in Old Westbury Wednesday after his vehicle crossed a median and collided with an out-of-service Nassau Inter-County Express bus, police said.

The name and hometown of the victim were not immediately available.

The teen was driving a 2019 BMW at 2:52 p.m. on Glen Cove Road south near Hewlett Drive when it crossed a median, hitting the northbound bus, police said in a news release. A Nassau police medic pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police said the driver of the bus, a 63-year-old man, was taken to a hospital in stable condition with minor injuries.

In an emailed statement, NICE spokesman Mark Smith said: "We are cooperating closely with the local authorities in their ongoing investigation."
