Rapper Flavor Flav indicted on driving offenses

Roosevelt-born rapper Flavor Flav is scheduled to appear in court later this month after his recent indictment on charges stemming from a traffic stop on the way to his mother's funeral last year.

The rapper, whose real name is William Drayton, was arrested Jan. 9, 2014 after State Police clocked him going 79 mph in a 55-mph stretch of the Meadowbrook Parkway, near the Southern State Parkway in Hempstead.

In January 2014, Drayton, 55, pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a speeding violation and marijuana possession.

Online court records show he was indicted on a felony charge of driving with a suspended license, a speeding violation and two misdemeanors for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle

His Bronx attorney Indji Bessim said Monday that her client was indicted in early November.

"He will be in court on the 21st," Bessim said.

Before Drayton was pulled over last January, he had announced on Twitter that his mother, Anna Drayton, had died on Dec. 31, 2013.

Drayton was a member of the Roosevelt rap group Public Enemy. The group -- which also includes Chuck D., Terminator X and Professor Griff -- debuted in 1987.

In June 2013, Public Enemy was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
