Three people, including one with a gunshot wound, were in custody Tuesday night after a police pursuit that began in Hempstead Village and ended in a Valley Stream neighborhood when the driver crashed into four vehicles, law enforcement sources said.

The pursuit started in Hempstead Village after police officers were investigating a crash there, a law enforcement source said. A white BMW sedan fled the scene with village police officers soon in pursuit.

The BMW eventually got on the westbound Southern State Parkway before getting off at Exit 15 in Valley Stream, the source said.

After turning onto nearby Blakeman Drive, the BMW struck the vehicles, the source said. Two people jumped out and were apprehended by police officers a short time later, the source said. The BMW continued on; the driver left the car on nearby Park Drive and fled on foot. Less than 30 minutes later, police took the driver into custody, the source said.

Officers found the wounded person in a backyard, a source said.
