A Syosset High School junior has added a new musical achievement to her list of personal high notes.

Angela Wee, 16, a violinist in the school orchestra, performed last week with the Long Island Philharmonic during its 35th gala at Oheka Castle in Huntington.

The opportunity was Wee's prize for winning the philharmonic's 2013-14 Young Artist Competition for Strings. In the contest, she played the first movement of Brahms' "Violin Concerto in D Major" and the third movement of Mendelssohn's "Violin Concerto in E minor."

"Every competition opens new doors for me, whether I win or not," Wee said. Of performing, she said: "It's just something that's always been in me. I love to share music."

Wee's other achievements include winning the Juilliard Pre-College Concerto Competition in 2011, which led to a performance with The Juilliard School's Pre-College Symphony. She also was one of eight finalists in the Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition in Beijing in 2012, and last year took first place at two prestigious contests -- the Cooper International Violin Competition in Ohio and the Salomé Young Artist Competition in Manhattan in 2013.

Wee also is a member of her school's Tri-M Music Honor Society and Chamber Music Club.
