Newsday won six New York Emmy Awards on Saturday night for its multimedia storytelling with more than two dozen employees honored for their work.

The winners were announced Saturday by the New York chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences during an afternoon virtual ceremony for creative arts and an evening in-person gala in Manhattan. This was the first year that creative arts were honored in a separate ceremony to celebrate the work of photographers, videographers and editors.

During the gala, comedian Jon Stewart and first responder advocate John Feal were honored with the chapter’s President’s Award for their work helping 911 first responders and veterans obtain health benefits. Longtime journalist and news anchor Dan Rather received the chapter’s Governors’ Award from his home in Texas for his seven-decade career as one of America’s most esteemed journalists.

Newsday earned wins in multiple categories, including in diversity, equity and inclusion, business and health. The company received 18 nominations.

“I’m incredibly proud of the work that was honored tonight,” said Newsday publisher Debby Krenek. “The stories were impactful and so important to today’s times.”
