David G. McDonough

BACKGROUND

• McDonough, 87, of Merrick, was elected to the State Assembly in a 2002 special election. 
• He chairs the Assembly Minority Task Force on Public Safety, which works with federal agencies on crime and education programs, and serves on the Transportation, Health, Education, Veterans’ Affairs and Consumer Affairs committees.
• McDonough is the former president of the Merrick Chamber of Commerce and still serves on its board.

ISSUES

• McDonough said public safety is a primary concern, adding that he recently secured funding for license plate readers aimed at deterring criminals.
• The economy is a primary issue in the race, according to McDonough, who said congestion pricing was “not a good idea” and put “an extra burden on the people.”
• He said it’s important for state leaders to work at the community level, adding, “I’m still very active in local affairs.”
