BACKGROUND

  • Abrahams, 50, of Freeport, is running on the Democratic Party line in a special election to fill the remaining four-year term of the late Councilman Christopher Carini, who was reelected to a second term in 2023. Carini died in July while on a family vacation in Florida.
  • Abrahams served more than two decades in the Nassau County Legislature and was minority leader from 2012 to 2023. He did not seek reelection.
  • Abrahams is senior director of regulatory processes at Northwell Health.

ISSUES

  • Abrahams said he is running on his 20-year track record of advocating for residents, addressing capital issues and working with Republicans to accomplish legislative goals.
  • He said protecting drinking water sources on the South Shore from saltwater intrusion will be key for all residents and noted he would work with the state on such efforts. 
  • Abrahams said he would work to keep communities safe through code enforcement and address residents’ everyday needs in part by working to reduce expenditures.
