BACKGROUND

  • Mattera, 61, of St. James, is running on the Republican and Conservative party lines in the general election. 
  • He is running for his third term. 
  • He is a graduate of Smithtown High School East and for 23 years has been a business agent for Plumbers Local Union 200. 

ISSUES

  • Mattera said that if reelected he would continue to work on bail laws. He said he wants to get “the right people to the table: the district attorneys, the judges and the PBAs” to come up with “the right bail reform.”
  • He said he wants to also work on the issue of migrants coming into the state, saying “there was no plan” or vetting process for them. He said he wants to rescind sanctuary laws for the state and New York City.
  • Mattera said he wants to continue to work on infrastructure projects, such as getting more homes connected to the sewer system in Suffolk County and finding the “right renewable energy solutions” for the future.
